Windows 2000 cannot connect to Internet after installing Security Update KB951748
Wednesday morning I was greeted by the familiar login screen on our Windows 2000 home computer because of a scheduled windows update the previous day. Unfortunately after security update KB951748 was installed my computer could no longer connect to the internet. Uninstalling KB951748 restored connectivity. If you know how to fix the issue without uninstalling KB951748 please let me know.
Update:
ZoneAlarm has been updated to address the issue. I haven’t tried it yet.
Check CNet’s story here and download ZoneAlarm fix from here
have a client with same problem, let an update install, no browser connection, can ping in command windows, ipconfig shows a connection. This patch according to MS messes with all things related to internet.

client uninstalled the Hotfix, they are back online.
thanks, client didn’t know number of patch, your note helped
There’s a problem with the patch if you are running Zone alarm. If you can’t uninstall the patch you can change Zone Alarm’s security from High to Medium and that should allow access to the internet
If you are running Zone Alarm here is a URL to Zone Alarm concerning this problem.

@Bradford: I am glad it helped. I was offline for a while before I could find time to figure out what was going on. Luckily my other computers did not have the issue
@Arnold: I do have Zone Alarm installed on the machine. Thanks for the link. I’ll reinstall KB951748 and test the suggestions
Thanks !
